*LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
The main legal requirements upon occupiers in relation to automatic powered doors are the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 (WPR), HSW Act and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992(MHSWR). Whilst specific duties are placed on employers and persons in control of workplaces by WPR to provide and maintain suitably constructed and safeguarded doors; such doors may also be items of work equipment and thus would be subject to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992 (PUWER).
7 At the time of writing a number of relevant codes of regulations including: WPR; PUWER; MHSWR; and the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (SM(S)R), are subject to transitional arrangements. Reference should be made to the application of each code when determining its relevance to individual installations. In all cases HSW Act will apply.
